The Internet is a continuously evolving media portal. Through the years, the online media has changed the landscape of information technology. Currently, there is so much going on in the Internet. There are new sub portals and new services that are being rolled out through this online media.
One of the new features of the Internet, particularly of the popular and ever-reliable search engines, is what is called as ‘back link’. A back link is literally a link that connects or directs to a Web page of Web site. To better demonstrate a back link and its natural business, it would be appropriate to look at normal Web pages.
For example, a particular Web page may include links that would direct the user to another Web site. Clicking on these links, you would logically and quickly direct to that particular Web page. However, in modern technical definitions, back links are more prevalent and common search engines.
You know that when you do a search using the services of search engines, there would be a list that would appear on the screen. Thus, when you use Google or Yahoo and you type a keyword or a keyword phrase, there would be numerous back links. These back links are direct links to other Web sites. It is inferred and logical that when you click on the back link, the information you need will be practically containing the specific keyword or keyword phrase you are seeking.
Google Back links
In Google, the back links and their appearances are based on the search engine ranking. Google has particular program or technology called the PageRank algorithm that would determine the demand for the Web site. Thus, if a particular Web site is searched for more frequently, it follows that the page would appear on the top of the list or at least in the first page.
Search ranking works by listing the sites that are more frequently visited for searches containing that particular keyword or keyword phrase. It is inferred that when a Web site is frequently visited, it means the page is very much useful and relevant. It can be noted that these sites are reliable that is why more users are looking into those sites.
In the case of Google, not much information can be derived that would reveal the actual number of visits or searches in the back link. The only clue you would find as to tell that the back link is in demand is that its search ranking is high. That means, without further details and explanation, that the back link is enjoying high online traffic. Using the Mozilla Firefox or the Internet Explorer, you could also derive a graph that would illustrate the traffic of the site.
Yahoo Back Links
Comparatively, when it comes to back links information and classification, search engine Yahoo is better and would provide more information. The feature called the Yahoo Site Explorer would provide you with accurate and actual back link counts. The information can be given in numerical and actual figures, rather than just bar graphs, as is the case of the Google back links.
Another search engine, the Microsoft Corp or MSN, has what is called as the Windows Live Search. This feature is like the Yahoo Site Explorer wherein accurate and actual volume of user demand and searches can be revealed.
However, it can be because of the command of competition, Google is now doing measures to match the Yahoo Site Explorer feature. Now, Google is starting to introduce a new webmaster instrument that would allow webmasters and computer experts to view further backlines to their Web sites.
Thus, that is another feature of general back links. It would provide the site owners and maintenance to monitor how online users are using and enjoying the site. This would be helpful because the feature would provide Web site moderators to monitor and determine the usability of the Web sites. Thus, the Web sites can tell if their strategies and designs are really working in luring more online users.
