Can cancer be ever cured successfully? In fact this question is in the minds of millions of people worldwide. Treatment of cancer was almost impossible several years ago. But now with the attempts of scientists and pharmacists many drugs are on the process of development. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made an unanticipated announcement when it approved a drug called Avastin for the healing of breast cancer. As per FDA it has conducted many tests and then came to the ultimate decision of approving this drug.

The creator of this miraculous drug is Genentech. Much labor was given for the production and the approval of this drug. Genentech declared that the drug Avastin can prevent the gradual development of the cancerous cells by almost 52% when it is applied by combining with of a particular kind of chemotherapy.

The Wall Street Journal came with a contradictory report on this by stating that FDA went against the judgment of its advisory board for recommending such a type of drug. Earlier it had approved those drugs and medicines which can extend the lives of cancer patients in their later stages of this disease or can make the lives of cancer patients a slightly better.

The Journal also reported that Avastin didn’t do any of these things. The DNA analysis that Genentech gave while going for the approval of Avastin clearly showed this. As per the demonstrations it was found that Avastin has the capability to reduce the tumors and thus it can prevent further progress of breast cancer. So for the very first time FDA went against its traditional decrees. The approval of such a drug called Avastin has upset many health experts as they fear that other similar drugs will now be on the line of approval by FDA leading to health threats.
