A decline has been observed in some cosmetic surgery related areas, but the figures released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that rates of cosmetic procedures in different racial groups in the US are on increase despite tough economic conditions.
According to these figures, there was nearly 11% increase in such cosmetic procedures in almost all ethnic groups during 2008. On the other hand, 2% drop in cosmetic procedures was noticed among Caucasians.
The greatest growth (nearly 18%) in cosmetic surgical procedures was noticed among Hispanics that is considered the biggest ethnic group in the United States.
According to ASPS President John Candy, “Now more and more Hispanics are looking for such procedures and this increase is quite well-matched with the growth in their population.”
“Patients can retain their ethic look with the advancements in these procedures and there is less social stigma attached with the procedure,” Canady adds.
Because of the economic downturn, Migrants from various countries in the US are facing difficulties to deliver remuneration back in their homes, but results of the study, which indicates an increase in cosmetic procedures, seem quite amazing. Most of these ethnic groups have their families or relatives in their native countries and they send considerable amounts of their income in their native countries.
But it is also a fact that the desire for looking more beautiful and gorgeous is also on increase especially among the women of various ethic groups living in the US. These women are not willing to compromise on their beauty no matter whether there is recession or war, the beauty industry seems to grow with the same pace and the results also indicate that the industry with more and more new innovation is still somewhat recession-proof.
