Beware diabetes patients if you are taking alcohol and also taking insulin shots or other diabetes medicines. This may cause very serious problems.
These are few different ways how alcohol may affect the diabetes patients:
Alcohol taken in moderate amount can cause diabetes patients blood sugar level to rise, while excess alcohol will decrease the blood sugar level.
- Carbohydrates are present in sweet wine and beer; it will again raise the blood sugar levels.

- The recommended amount of alcohol for non-diabetics are one drink per day for women, and two drink per day for men.
- Alcohol also result in lowering down the blood sugar level, therefore one should always drink it with a meal or when stomach is full.
- If you are conscious about your increasing weight, you should know that alcohol is rich in calories. You will gain weight within a very short span of time.
- Try mixing alcohol with some drinks which are low in sugar like diet soda, club soda, tonic, and others.
- Do not ever drink alcohol if you have nerve damage or a high blood pressure.

- Alcohol is processed in our body in a similar fashion as that of fat. So, if the diabetes patients drink alcohol it will result in the rise of a blood sugar level which is again very harmful for them.
- It is also advisable that before you start drinking alcohol, you should see doctor and check whether you have a high blood pressure or high triglyceride levels, especially those who are overweight.
