Menopause is a natural cycle in a woman’s life referring to the end of her menstruation cycle. Menopause comes from a Greek word ‘menspausis’. ‘Mens’ means monthly and ‘pausis’ means cessation. It reflects the ageing process in a woman’s life. It is the time when the ovaries begin to produce lower levels of progesterone and estrogen hormones making her incapable of reproducing. It usually occurs between 42-56 years of age.
Menopause is a natural process and is not a disease or some sort of illness that requires immediate medical attention. A woman may feel insomniac, fatigued, have dry eyes, hot flashes, joint pain, etc. But the most negative impact menopause has on women is either mood swings or deep depression where, in some cases, surprisingly women may also feel suicidal.

The best way is to speak out with a close one and share the problems and tensions.
You should also be mentally prepared for your menopause as soon as you step into your 40s. You should enlighten yourself by reading books, articles and other materials on menopause. It’s wise to sit and learn more about menopause through friends and relatives who have already gone through this phase. Consulting your health care practitioner may also be useful.

Going out and meeting new people will divert your thoughts from the regular work, making you feel better and happy. Engage yourself in activities that you like. If, at some point in life, you left your hobbies in the dark, turn on the lights and do what pleases you. Listen to music. Nothing could be more calming than music. Watch movies that you like and have missed on during all these years. Go out for a stroll or jump into the pool and cool your hot flashes. After all, you wouldn’t want to miss on any fun and not feel happy because of a natural change in your life!
