The latest study from Sweden has confirmed that all those people who were calm, outgoing as well as unaffected by stress were the least likely to have dementia. However, the risk was also lower for those who remained calm even if they were not active socially. The researchers also added that though these studies are promising enough, they do not see a direct link that relates lifestyle, lifestyle habits as well as dementia.
Dr. Hui Xin who led the study in the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, published the results in the pint issue of the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. A series of previous studies have also confirmed that people with a higher neuroticism are possibly at a higher risk of dementia and those with an active lifestyle are at low risk. But it would be interesting to know the effects of a combined personality. For the study, they enrolled 506 older people and they were followed over the period of six years and then out of this lot, only 144 developed dementia. The participants filled their own questionnaire to decide on their lifestyle.
