A serious condition prevailed in the Southern Nevada district of Las Vegas when it was found that about 6 persons have been infected with Hepatitis-C virus. The Southern Nevada Health District announced that these persons got infected when they went at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada. As per them the clinic doesn’t maintain safety standards during injection applications. Other officials are of the opinion that the patients got infected with the virus when they were given anesthesia injections. No such precautions were maintained at that time which led to the release of the virus in the blood of patients.
Doctors and officials are still worried about the fact that about 40K patients would be subjected to the risk of getting the Hepatitis-C virus. As per the statement of Lawrence Sands who is the chief health officer; it was cleared that those patients who were applied with anesthesia injections in the month of March 2004 have the risk of being infected with HIV and Hepatitis-C virus. As per Sands they are trying their best to advice the patients who were treated during that period of time to go for medical examination by this year. This will help them to determine who are infected and to take further required actions.
Many are of the idea that the deadly viruses spread because the clinic personnel treated the patients by reuse of the injections. Serious oppositions were faced from the people, Health District etc. by the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada due to their blunders. As per the clinic it stated that though the reuse of injections were practiced earlier by their staffs unknowingly but from now they would remain stricter so that it is not done any longer. The clinic officials said that they would take precaution and see to the protection of every patient before treating them.
The Medical Board has undergone the entire case and it has promised that serious on spot inspections will be carried by them. Then only they will decide whether to withdraw or keep the clinic’s license and its official medical recognition.
