Osteoarthritis is responsible for disabilities and causes a lot of problems related to the public health. A new study which was conducted has found out that the effect of the chondroitin 4 along with the sulphate on an osteoarthritis progression. The sulphate, unlike the other products is sold largely as a dietary supplement in the United States and has also been approved as a prescriptive slow acting drug for a majority of the patients suffering from osteoarthritis in a majority of the countries in Europe. The findings of such a study were published in the February issue of the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism.
For such a study, there were patients who were collected from the different parts of the world such as Europe and United States. All of these patients had their x rays taken at the interval of 12 months and 24 months. The x rays were accessed in the terms of joint space loss and the patients were also judged for the osteoarthritis pain and progress.
According to the authors of the study, the results showed a long term dose of sulphate can actually prevent the joint chassis from degrading further in the patients who are diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The joint space was reduced by a great extent and there haven’t been any adverse events in all of these patients. There was a faster improvement in the pain in the initial year and then the progress went on steadily.
